Robert D. Hunt, M.D.

Board Certified Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist trained at Harvard University School of Medicine (General Psychiatry),  University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco (Medical School); and UCLA (Child Psychiatry). Dr. Hunt was a Research Psychiatrist at the National Institutes of Mental Health, where he performed blood level studies of stimulant medications and neurobiological studies of ADHD.


Faculty Positions

Formerly on the faculty of the Yale School of Medicine for seven years where he directed The Clinic of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders at the Yale Child Study Center. He also directed The Clinic for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity while he was a tenured faculty member at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Centers

In July, 1993, Dr. Hunt founded The Center for Attention and Hyperactivity Disorders, as a site for treatment and research in child and adult ADD. The Center offers sophisticated medication treatment and research. It also provides group psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults, and family and individual counseling. The Center has established an Educational Division that provides school consultation and a novel, Multi-Sensory Interactive Educational Curriculum.


Collaborations & Consultations


The Center is currently developing affiliates and satellites programs in the Southeast, including Chattanooga, Jackson and Knoxville,TN, Evansville,IN, and beyond. Dr. Hunt provides physician consultation regarding complex ADD cases via phone, video conferencing, and computer assessment – to help physicians treat and retain these patients within their practice.


Software, Video, Media

Dr. Hunt also directs Psychiatric Information and Education Systems, dedicated to development of advanced computerized cognitive and personality assessments. SmartSoft-ADD provides clinicians, parents and educators an efficient assistance in assessment and monitoring of treatment response, SmartSoft-ADD included Behavior Ratings, PIES produces videotapes about ADD for parents, teachers and physicians. Dr. Hunt is developing a TV and radio program on Mental Health and
Wellness issues called “Hunt for Health.”


Medication Research

Dr. Hunt is a nationally recognized expert in ADHD and in Pediatric Psychopharmacology. He has been developing new medication treatments for ADHD and studying the neurobiology of this disorder. Dr. Hunt performed the first studies of Clonidine, Tenex and Adderall in ADD. Dr. Hunt is currently
pioneering research in the use of Spect scan brain imaging for understanding underlying brain mechanisms in complex psychiatric patients.


Professional & Corporate Speaking


Dr Hunt is nationally-known as an informative and entertaining speaker to professional and parent groups regarding problems of children and of adults with ADHD.—and on increasing executive productivity. He teaches physicians about the use of medication and therapeutic interventions with complex ADD.
